In her presentation, Sara Kleindienst took listeners through the important waystations on her journey to becoming a professor at the University of Stuttgart. She talked about the moment during her studies that her fascination with microbes started, how she made them her research focus and since then has not changed but expanded her main research focus. From her earliest work in the field of microbiology and her work in the Gulf of Mexico following the Deepwater Horizon explosion in 2010 to her manifold current projects, she provided a comprehensive overview of the research areas she and her group focus on and the questions they address. The reception after her talk gave guests the chance for more in-depth questions and networking.
