On the warmest day of the year so far, we decided to leave behind our labs and offices to explore our surroundings. Our trip took us to Esslingen, where our itinerary included a lunch consisting of funky variations on the classic Swabian Maultaschen, a short hike through the vineyards with a little quiz along the way, and a guided tour of Esslingen's castle, which included a descend down to the old water reservoir beneath the castle lawn.
